It all started a few years ago when one of my daughters wanted to give cutting boards for Christmas presents. I went out and bought some wood and a few basic tools and started in. I found I enjoyed it so much I just kept going.

Sometime later, I started blacksmithing and having been a welder for over 40 years, I took to blacksmithing like a duck to water.

I enjoyed the whole making and creating process so much, I decided to try selling product. Needing a business name that shows wood, metal, and creativity, I settled on Wood-n-Metal Designs.

Then, then like most things in life, the idea came that if I got bigger and better equipment, I could do bigger and better things. I decided not to go that route.

I make every piece by hand with hand tools and a few small power tools. In my wood pieces you will see minor blemishes and occasionally some remnants of sanding marks. In the metal pieces, you will see hammer marks made by hand. I do not use power hammers or hydraulic presses.

Because of this, each piece you buy is very truly unique. Even if I try to copy it, there will be differences. Your piece is the only one ever made.

One final Note:

I get asked all the time as a blacksmith, "Do you make knives?"

No I do not.

I choose not to compete in a market oversaturated with a few who know what they are doing and a whole bunch who don't.
